🌱 Devon Makers Market is coming to Sturtlebury Barn, Loddiswell this weekend. The maker lineup is awesome, and I can't wait to be involved. Thought I would share a handle of the pieces I will be bringing along with me.

🌱 This little Long Tail Tit is coming to the Devon Makers Market at the beautiful location of Sturtlebury Barn. Pyro and paint on a piece of my own milled oak from the farm next to me. I will also be bringing many of my new nature inspired art.
🌱 It would be lovely to see you there, this event is open for Sat 12 and Sun 13 April 2025. Free parking and entry.

Improving My Woodwork Skills

🌱 At the beginning of the year I set myself achievements to be made during 2025. One of them was to improve my wood working skills. I am self taught not only with my wood burning but also my woodworking skills, and felt I needed some coaching.

🌱 So I spent the morning with this legend, Mr Pomeroy, an awesome local boat builder. He has taught me so much about routering, plunge routering, planing and the bandsaw I'm actually starting to feel like a badass woodworker now 😝 Big shout out to this one 🤩

🌱 At the beginning of the year I set myself achievements to be made during 2025. One of them was to improve my wood working skills. I am self taught not only with my wood burning but also my woodworking skills, and felt I needed some coaching.

��🌱 I took this photo of a Lesser Black-backed Gull at last year's Salcombe Crab Fest when I had a stall there. He looked so majestic swimming through the water and I love his reflection.

The Part I Hate ..

🌱 As I've mentioned before is the endless times you have to sand to prime the wood. don't get me wrong I adore the finished product of turning my wood art into something functional such as my cutting boards, but I do hate the process of sanding.

🌱 However, this element has to be the absolute dogs wotsits where I add the oil and bring the board to life enhancing the true colours of the wood to maximum effect and protection of course.

Keeping The Belief.

🌱 Why do I always find January, February, March so t.errifying. I guess it's because the Christmas events have stopped, in fact, all the events have stopped. My income drops and then the procrastination and imposter syndrome steps up.

🌱 In a bid to combat this I create new stock for my up-and-coming events in Spring. Try new designs, techniques and products. It doesn't help the current situation but hopefully it helps my future as a wood burning artist for this year.

🌱 I'm so bad at allowing myself time just to sketch. No agenda involved, just create for the sake of creating. It's the best way to improve by observing shapes, details, patterns and shading. It's something I definitely don't prioritise.

🌱 I'm literally so slack as when it comes to videoing my process so you can see the work come together. I see so many creators absolutely smashing this and don't know how they do it. I just get lost in the artwork and forget, useless. This is something that needs major improvement - in the meantime any tips would be amazing 🌱
